The Birth of Sloane, a C-Section story

Courtney contacted me a few weeks before her due date interested in booking me for her upcoming birth. We met up a few days later and talked about the upcoming arrival of her surprise gender baby! She let me know that baby had flipped into the breech position and there was talk of a c-section due to some medical issues she had as well. She asked if I would be o.k. going into the OR with them at Lakeland Regional Medical Center and of course I said YES!

Birth photographers are there to document the entire story no matter how it unfolds and be there for you in whatever ways we can. You need me to hold your hair while you vomit, I got you. You need some more ice, I’m already running down the hall to the ice machine. You need me to stand there and be quiet and hold space, I’m giving you hugs from a distance. So it was no different with Courtney and I was there for her no matter what.

Around 37 weeks she sent a text to let me know that her and the doctor had decided it was baby time with the ongoing issues and she would be induced a few days later. The day before induction though things changed baby had flipped BACK into breech position and they were pushing for a c-section. Courtney begged them to allow her to have one more ultrasound in the morning and if baby had flipped back head down then she asked to be induced. We talked for a minute about the plan and it was decided I would meet them at 7am for the c-section to document everything and while we waited she hung upside down in the car holding on to any hope she had left before the ultrasound. To our surprise that sneaky little babe had flipped so and induction it was!

They broke her water around 9:30 and got her hooked up to the pitocin. She bounced, flipped, walked, and moved all around to get labor going through the day and into the night. The process was long and by the next morning we were all tired from the night before. As the 24 hour mark crept up Courtney was discouraged she wasn’t progressing but the staff at Lakeland Regional Medical Center was so patient and allowed her so much time to get baby out on her own. By the early afternoon she had finally had enough and a c-section was called.

Now, this was my first time being allowed in an OR and I was given strict instructions on what I was allowed to photograph. 34 hours after arriving at the hospital we were wheeled into the OR. It was amazing to witness my first belly birth and see the strength Courtney had even though she was so scared. Her husband was right there by her side to comfort her as they waited to find out if their baby was a boy or girl. A few minutes after entering the OR the anesthesiologist told me to stand up and peek over the curtain I saw two tiny arms and the OB delivered the baby. IT’S A GIRL shouted Tim, and Courtney wept with joy hearing Slaone’s cry! SHE WAS FINALLY HERE!

Baby Jade | Tampa Florida newborn photographer

One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is being able to capture moments for friends and family. Baby Jade is so sweet and I just adore her whole family. I can't wait to capture many more special moments of you little Jade!

Do you live in Tampa or surrounding areas? If so I would love to talk to you about booking your own newborn session!

Christina | Tampa botanical garden and beach maternity session

Christina contacted by around the beginning of December to schedule her maternity and newborn session. I was so excited because as a photographer its so awesome to be able to capture both of these huge events! Not to mention its super fun getting baby snuggles!

Christina and Matt decided that they wanted a beach session and I quickly talked them into doing a double session meaning we started the session in one location, but finished it off in another location. The first location was a beautiful botanical garden and we picked the perfect time because the blooms did not disappoint! About 45 minutes before sunset we hurried over to the beach to finish off our session at sunset. Their whole session was beautiful and Christina just radiated and looked stunning in her Sew Trendy gown!

The Birth of Finley at Sweet Child of Mine Brandon, FL

The birth of Finley started a few days ago. I received a text very early Saturday morning, it was around 2am. It was Phill Becky's husband letting me know she was having contractions and he would keep me updated! I was so excited, as I get with all of my births, that this was finally it! It was also the night of the Eclipse and if you're superstitious like myself you were hopeful the moon would bring a baby! Finley had other plans and held out on us and made an even bigger grand entrance.

Monday came around and I got a text from Becky just checking in with me to let me know she had seen the midwife and she was having random contractions here and there. We joked it would be cool to have a love day baby and I think Finley thought it was funny too.

Tuesday morning around 1:36 Phill text me to let me know contractions had picked back up and were organized and intensifying at about 3 minutes apart. I stayed up for a few hours because again I was anxious and excited, but then Phill text back saying things had died down and they were going to rest. I was a so sad for Becky because I knew she wanted to meet her baby. A few hours later, around 6am, I heard my birth text ringtone ding and flew up out of bed. It was Phill again letting me know they thought Becky's water had broken and they were heading in to the birth center.  About 30 minutes later I got confirmation it was D-Day and headed out to the birth center.

I arrived to the birth center around 7:20 and quietly entered the birthing suite and found everyone. Becky was in the bathroom and I could hear her vocalizing through her contractions, so I knew we were close to meeting Finley.  Her mom, sister, doula, midwife and of course husband were all there in the room to show their support. Becky had an amazing support system and birth team and it was so nice to see everyone loving on her, and you could just feel the love throughout the entire room. Everyone stayed quiet and calm and gathered around Becky to help her bring Finley into the world.  Her husband and doula did an amazing job making her feel comfortable and they never left her side the entire time. The whole family did a great job taking turns and offering their support. I've never seen that before and it was truly beautiful!

After laboring in the tub for about 2 hours Becky got out of the warm water. She made into the bathroom where she continued to labor calmly and hard for another 2 hours. Once she started to feel baby moving down the midwife suggested they try a few pushes to help her fully dilate and bring Finley earth side. Becky worked HARD and pushed and pushed! The midwife, Kim, suggested she move back to the tub to deliver since baby's head was visible. Once in the tub and a couple of contractions later Finley was born at 11:37am. She was 7.14 lbs & 20in of pure peferctness! Welcome to the world sweet baby Finley. It was an honor and a joy to witness your beautiful, strong mommy work so hard to get you here with us.

The Birth of Eli

I met Ashley almost two years ago now when I captured her family on a gorgeous beach. We made an instant connection and quickly became friends. Fast forward to last spring when she messaged me one evening to tell me the exciting news, SHE WAS PREGGO!  I was so happy for her and even more happy when she asked if I would be her birth photographer.

On September 17th, in the evening, I got a text from Ashley saying that she thought her water had broken and she would keep me updated as to what the midwife said once she got to the birth center. A few hours later and it was just a false alarm, but she was having contractions and it would be any minute now. Around 4:30-5am she text me again to let me know it was the real deal and they were headed back to the birth center. THIS WAS IT. This was not a drill people! I hurried to get dressed and grabbed my gear and made my way to the birth center.
